Snooky Report

Eds Back! Got him on a solid slam!

I just got back from a long winter in Chicago and dropped his bags and was itching to go fishing.  We launched at sunrise and landed 3 decent snook off the bat the biggest being 25 inches or so.  Then we got into a couple top of the slot reds and caught a mess of trout at least over 30 trout or more.  All on the Golden Brim CAL  1/4 ounce jig head..  Photobucket

Jeremy breaking in the new comander

My brother Jeremy and myself decided to go out for a sundowner to a little after dark.  He recently got the new Wilderness Systems Commander 120 and he seems to really like it.  It tracked really well he kept up with me in the tarpon 160 well! Anyways we caught 7 snook the biggest was close to 30 inches. We were  throwing the CAl Greene and Arkansas glow!  Nice to get out and chill wit my brother and catch a couple good fish! Big girl came out at night with Van and his son in law Reid

Van had his son in law coming in town and he wanted to get him out at night to try for the big snook I'm on real good all winter.  We launched at 4:00 all bundled up in layers of clothes.  We paddled back to the zone and the first cast as I was showing Reid how to work the jig picked up a mid 20 s snook.  We worked on so juvenile tarpon that were rolling around us till the sun went down with some shorts strikes by the tarpon and some lady fish.  Photobucket
As the sun was going down we began to work the zone where they big snook have been.  The Tide was pretty slow but we started hearing some snook blasting finger mullet and some ladfish.  I had the big Girl snook come up and blast the CAL Greene and after a very intense fight landed a big 40 inch fat snook! They are there!  Some times it can be tuff to get them to bite just have to keep working it right and they will let you know when they like it! Photobucket   Photobucket Photobucket
Any cast could be a trophy!

Low tide Flounder in the Lake & bay

Serious low tide today wind coming out of the north east 20-30 and a super low.  We got 3 nice flounder lost 3 boat side on their vicious head shake bouncing the Cal Jigs and the beaver tail Cal.  We got some real nice trout and a couple decent reds.  Had some tailing reds and tried sight casting some was extremely tuff in the wind..  Cody threw the sebile at a tailing red blew up on it and missed it..  I was using the trolling motor pretty much all morning with the wind.  It got so Hot it shot sparks everywhere and that was the end to our morning..  Photobucket Photobucket

Gagging in the Fog whiskey Tango style

Was going to go out grouper fishing with Cody but with the fog being so bad we decided not to go out..  Steve Doss invited me to get out with them on his 45 Ocean. We met at the boat around 10 we had a nice good group of people.  We sabiked up runners, pin fish, cigar minnow and thread fin on a perfect tide rip in about 25 feet of water.  We ran out to 80 foot in serious fog.  We got a hand full of nice gags in the 15 to 20 lb class and a few other solid fish! Good trip met some really good people and we all went home with a big bag of grouper!

World Class tailing reds in the fog

Got out with my buddy Spencer at what would be sunrise.  The fog was so thick you could barely see 50 yard but we had an ideal tide and we had big redfish tailing from 7 till close to 1:00.  Tailing reds are the toughest fish to catch we both were able to get one each.  I got one to eat super spook silver mullet in about a foot of water. Fish was close to 15 Lbs one that made the day worth it got a handful of real nice trout on the top water as well.  Spencer got one about 30 inches pretty much right where we launched.  Wish I could have got a picture of it..
