Sailfishing in Miami on the 31 Contender

Cody Called me up with change in plans a few times.  We were going to go to Key West But we had a condo to stay in Miami so we decided to go sail fishing over there!  We Left Thursday late afternoon towing the 31 Contender with my good buddy Cody Chivas and Jack Vasaleros from www.championangler.com   We met my good buddy Sam from www.saltyshores.com .   We Got to Miami at like 1:00 and got up and got up at 5:00 caught bait on the beach found thousands of tarpon. We jumped 2 fish they were spooky of the boat with the crystal clear water.  We ran out and started flying the kite and we got 3 dolphin and a couple bonita and had one sailfish on.  Sam Got a couple cool pictures!

We were bummed we didn't get any sails but we pinned up all the bait  and were ready for another day! Saturday it rained all day so we searched all over Miami all day to get more winter apparel that was tough!  It was record low for Miami 36 degrees and 30 mph winds.  We all were snow man gear out.  We had a good crew Cody,Jack, Alonzo from Miami  and his buddy Billy that is a Mate on a 63 Bertram over in Miami Jack sisters boyfriend and myself!  Photobucket
We sabikied up a bunch more Thread fins inside Government cut and Ran offshore it was a cold one!    Billy had High wind kites that had holes in them  still had a hard time getting them up with the wind! We had one Sailfish cut the leader.   We ran 15 Miles up to the North found a bunch of birds working bait.  I threw out a small pilchard on the spinner feed him line cranked down nice Sailfish in the air.  While I was fighting the fish there was a couple other free jumpers in the area!  Got him in after a good 15 minute fight or so.  We had another one shortly after hit the kite bait I dropped it back to him and cranked down and fish in the air. We handed the rod off to Louis Jack's Sisters boyfriend for his first sailfish!
