The Kingfish Bite of a Lifetime!!!!!

Heres how the day went down get ready!!! I met up at Captain Tyson's house at 6:30 and it was the real foggy over cast morning we got the boat ready and we threw the bucket I had of shrimp for those Triple Tail's that are out thick right now on the traps.  So we put in the boat Seminole boat ramp in Clearwater and we made the run to where we though there might be a good top water bite we got a few trout didn't see much going on so we decided to make the run to the Pod and get bait.  We started going and right by the Clearwater Pass bridge there is a Sheriff boat and he is coming towards us with his lights on.  Great what a way to start off the morning sun is just now trying to come out.  So the did the whole boat check licenses check jackets flares all that good stuff.  They told us while they pulled where we ran is a new Idle zone that either one of knew about.  So we got our $65 ticket (I guess it could have been worse)  They were nice and they are just doing their job.  We jet out to the tripod anchor up took 2 trys and Tyson threw a pancake and let it drift back we both had to give it everything we had to get the bait in the boat! We had small whitebait,  Massive donkey whitebait's, Big Threadfins dozens of perfect size grunts and a few pin fish. So with so much bait in the live well you dont want to kill everything in there with being a bait glutton so we filled up a five gallon bucket full of chummers hurried up and made our run to the spot.  Anchored up and just starting throwing out chummers by the hand fulls instantly we had bonito and macks being us.  We had one rod rigged up so we toss it out on a balloon instantly caught a big Mack.   So we rigged up another rod and chummed extremely heavy cutting bait throwing hand fulls of livies and handfuls of deads.  Then we both got our first kings of the morning still respectable kings and we are doing them on 4000 Daiwa reels with braided line with a sketch of a flouro leader to a stinger rig!

Then Tyson threw out a bait under a balloon and it was a slow take and bam he was rocked up.  HMM I wonder what that could be! So i rigged up a bigger spinner and hooked a grunt in the tail and sent him down Bam instantly a 19 inch gag full of our chum to the maximum.  We ended trading back and forth with one person could get a king and one could get a grouper we got 6 real close to keeper grouper and a nice black sea bass.  Now the Kings are extremely thick behind the boat Skyrocketing and busting everywhere around us  if you cast out and it you dont have one in 2 seconds somethings wrong!  So I rigged up a jig head because the king chomped the big grunt I sent down that couldn't make it to the bottom. Caught a few more grouper on the jig head then hooked another king on the jig head and we couldn't get down to the bottom dwellers now.  So we both are having double headers  going down for hours now.  We had it down we would be fighting the fish running all around the boat the one that was slightly ready to come in the other person (Me or Tyson) put their rod in the rod holder and  would throw on the glove grab tail and pull them up  the side of the flats skiff's low railing, yell flip bail,  and grab the dehooker yell  move stinger and slam him into the water.  We had it down just like that to and we got extremely quick at it with  good team work skills!  Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
We have these fish Skyrocketing 12-15 feet in the air still chasing a bait  in the air and  doing crazy explosions I tried my hardest to get one in the air  with my camera but fish was way to non stop and I didn't have the camera that Sam hooked me up with yesterday and couldn't take real quick pictures.  But I got an explosion and you can see the line cutting the water! It was cool to see the bigger ones like the 25-35 Lb fish would stay put more and stalk the bait like a snook in a dock light and the just launch  them self on to your bait.  Amazing visuals with the big pelagic wolves just stacked all over the back of the boat.  They would come in pods it would be 10 lb fish then 25 Lb fish then the big dogs would come 25-35 maybe even there was some 40's Kinda hard to tell but they are a big wide dark fish in the water!
We tried rigging up with a top water on a steel leader but that didn't pan out and we threw a old x-rap on a steel leader and that got chomped we looked in the and you have your own well full of lures so we were done with that.  We started taking off out bait stinger hook after it got all twisted after so many fish and being straighted a bunch of time (which caused us to loose a lot of fish but it was a quick fix and get you back in the game). We were throwing our bait on the ground so it was all wounded just for the sky rocket and would judge it on a scale from 1-10 laughing and having a ball and we had the whole beach to our selfs.  Now its coming down do you think that would stop us or the fish it seemed like the bigger ones were more consistent now.

We both lost some monsters next to the boat with stingers pulling out almost getting spooled a couple times and feathering it down with your had or tightening it down and it would pull or the would chomp through the rig.
I lost one that was almost done that was the biggest monster of the day right next to the boat I was working a different angle on him and chomp I wanted to get a picture with this beast bad! Oh well! We were just having fun with them on the light gear! We had 2 boats come from offshore and it was like they couldn't move their heading so we would have to drop our rods limp and act like we didn't have a fish for the sake of the number and location and because we had them to our selfs.  One actually got me on the motor while I was trying to play it off like I had nothing.  Eventually our anchor skipped out when the wind switched around to the north and Tyson got a Mack and I got a huge lizard fish and a keeper flounder.  From  8:00-2:30 of non stop catching king fish and never coming off of the anchor. After stopping for 5 minutes we both looked at each other and said im done and beat!   The Bait that we were our live chummers that were more lively that were balled up under our boat the whole day you could see them 50 yards away from up just getting skyrocketed on and destroyed.  We got a $65 ticket smoked 2 reels and broke and rod into 5 pieces by working a funny angle.  Priceless! I wonder how many fish were really around our boat because you could see a slick that was pretty much where all the King fish were and it was big!  Realistically we landed probably close 60 king fish not to mention all the fish we lost! The Aftermath and Carnage!
